The Thermax-i series debuts with UltraPac-i, a biomass-fired boiler designed to optimise fuel use through intelligent controls, alongside the launch of Opticor 2.0.

Thermax has introduced its Thermax-i series of intelligent boilers and heaters at Boiler India 2026, expanding its industrial heating portfolio with technology designed to respond to changing operating conditions. The launch featured UltraPac-i, an intelligent biomass-fired boiler, and Opticor 2.0, which the company describes as a solution for real-time monitoring and control.

The Thermax-i series is designed to adjust equipment performance as fuel characteristics and process requirements change. According to Thermax, the objective is to improve operating efficiency, manage fuel consumption and help industrial facilities maintain stable performance under varying conditions.

UltraPac-i Targets Industrial Fuel Efficiency

The first product in the series, UltraPac-i, uses EDGE Control, Thermax’s proprietary control technology. The system combines engineering-based models with data-driven analytics to monitor operating conditions and make automatic adjustments.

Thermax reports that pilot installations of UltraPac-i have achieved fuel savings of up to 10%. This is a company-reported result, and actual savings will depend on factors such as fuel quality, boiler load, existing equipment and plant operating conditions.

The technology is intended to address a practical challenge in biomass-fired systems: variations in fuel characteristics can affect combustion and boiler performance. Intelligent control can help equipment respond to these changes while supporting consistent steam generation.

Industrial boilers supply heat and steam to sectors including food processing, chemicals, textiles and manufacturing. In these operations, improvements in fuel efficiency can influence production costs and energy performance.

Retrofit Options for Existing Equipment

Thermax has also highlighted the potential to deploy EDGE Control as a retrofit solution on compatible existing equipment. This could allow industrial operators to introduce intelligent controls without necessarily replacing an entire boiler system.

The feasibility and benefits of a retrofit will depend on the equipment configuration, control systems and requirements of the individual facility. Businesses would need to evaluate the investment against expected fuel savings, installation costs and ongoing maintenance.

Opticor 2.0 Adds Monitoring and Control Capabilities

Alongside the Thermax-i series, Thermax announced Opticor 2.0, which the company describes as incorporating a touchscreen interface for real-time monitoring and control.

The announcement adds to the focus on making industrial heating equipment easier to monitor and manage. Better visibility into operating conditions can help plant teams identify variations, respond to changes and maintain closer control over equipment performance.

The precise commercial benefits will depend on the product’s configuration and how it is implemented in individual industrial facilities.

Intelligent Heating and Industrial Energy Management

The launch reflects a broader focus on improving industrial energy performance through automation, monitoring and data-driven control. For manufacturers, the value of these systems lies in their ability to deliver measurable operational improvements while maintaining reliability and production requirements.

Thermax’s reported pilot results provide an indication of the potential fuel-efficiency gains from UltraPac-i, although performance across different industrial settings will need to be assessed individually. The company’s ability to extend these capabilities across its boiler and heater portfolio will be an important factor in determining their wider industrial adoption.
