Tata Electronics and L&T Semiconductor Partner on Chip Manufacturing

L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT) and Tata Electronics have announced a strategic partnership to expand the indigenous manufacturing of semiconductor

L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT) and Tata Electronics have announced a strategic partnership to expand the indigenous manufacturing of semiconductor products in India for global customers.

The partnership combines LTSCT’s fabless semiconductor design and engineering capabilities with Tata Electronics’ capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, packaging and testing.

Under the partnership, the companies will jointly explore chip fabrication and packaging opportunities for LTSCT’s current and future products using Tata Electronics’ range of semiconductor fabrication processes and packaging solutions. The companies will also work on design-to-fabrication optimisation aimed at enabling efficient manufacturing at scale.

The collaboration will target semiconductor products for automotive, industrial, communications, security and intelligent-edge applications.

LTSCT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro and operates as a fabless semiconductor company. According to the companies, its planned semiconductor portfolio includes power, compute, analog/mixed-signal, IoT modules and RF products, serving areas such as automotive, industrial, energy, data centres and telecommunications.

Tata Electronics has capabilities spanning electronics manufacturing services, semiconductor assembly and testing, semiconductor foundry and design services. The company is developing semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India, including its semiconductor fab project in Dholera, Gujarat.

The companies said the partnership is aligned with the Government of India’s “Manufacture in India – for India and for the World” vision and the objectives of Semicon 2.0, with a focus on developing domestic semiconductor capabilities and increasing value addition within India.

The development brings together semiconductor design, fabrication and packaging capabilities, with the two companies now evaluating opportunities to manufacture LTSCT’s existing and future chip products in India.
