The hiring drive includes 75,000 opportunities for first-time workforce entrants and nearly 1.4 lakh roles in last-mile delivery.

India’s festive shopping season is creating new demands on the country’s e-commerce supply chain. As customers prepare for major online sales, companies must expand their fulfilment, warehousing and delivery operations to manage increased order volumes. Flipkart has announced more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, including gig-worker roles, for the 2026 festive season.

The announcement, made on September 15, highlights the connection between festive-season demand and employment across the e-commerce logistics network. According to Flipkart, nearly 75,000 opportunities—close to 30% of the total—are intended for people entering the workforce for the first time. The company says the initiative will create pathways into employment across communities in India.

Last-Mile Delivery Accounts for 60% of New Opportunities

Last-mile delivery represents the largest share of Flipkart’s festive-season employment expansion. The company says it is adding nearly 1.4 lakh last-mile employment opportunities, accounting for approximately 60% of the new opportunities.

Flipkart is also adding more than 900 festive delivery hubs across the country. These additions are intended to strengthen its delivery network ahead of the festive shopping period and support rising customer demand.

The employment opportunities will span more than 7,000 Ekart facilities, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations. Together, these functions support the movement of products from sellers and warehouses to customers.

Tier 2 and Tier 3 Cities Become Important Growth Markets

Flipkart has linked its supply-chain expansion to rising demand in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, along with the growth of its quick-commerce service, Flipkart Minutes.

As e-commerce reaches more customers beyond major metropolitan areas, delivery networks must support a wider geographical footprint. For companies, this requires additional operational capacity, local delivery infrastructure and workers who can manage different stages of order fulfilment.

The festive-season expansion illustrates how demand for online shopping can create employment opportunities across multiple parts of the logistics ecosystem.

First-Time Workers and Workforce Inclusion

The hiring announcement also places emphasis on workforce participation. Nearly 75,000 opportunities are expected to go to first-time workforce entrants, offering an entry point into e-commerce and supply-chain operations.

Flipkart said women now account for more than 20% of its supply-chain workforce. The company also reported increased participation of persons with disabilities across warehouse and delivery operations.

In addition, Flipkart’s Supply Chain Operations Academy has awarded nearly 10,000 certifications ahead of the festive season. The academy provides training in supply-chain operations and works with partners including the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani.

What the Hiring Drive Means for E-Commerce

The festive season is an important period for online retailers, but managing demand involves more than increasing product availability or offering discounts. Fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and delivery networks must work together to process and deliver orders.

Flipkart’s employment announcement provides a measurable example of how an e-commerce company is expanding its operational capacity ahead of a major sales period. The figures also highlight the role of last-mile delivery in supporting online retail across India.

However, the announcement concerns employment opportunities planned or created for the festive season. It should not be interpreted as confirmation that every opportunity represents a permanent job or that all positions have already been filled.

Flipkart’s 2.5 lakh-plus festive-season employment announcement brings attention to the infrastructure behind India’s online retail growth. With last-mile delivery accounting for the majority of the new opportunities, the expansion demonstrates the importance of logistics and workforce capacity during peak shopping periods.

As e-commerce demand expands across cities and towns, the ability to manage fulfilment and delivery operations will remain an important part of the industry’s growth story.
