Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan have inaugurated a state-of-the-art STEM Innovation Lab at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Pitampura, Delhi, bringing technology-driven, hands-on learning opportunities to government-school students.
The initiative brings together the Delhi Government, the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, HMD and Da One Group, reflecting the growing role of public-private partnerships in strengthening India’s school education infrastructure. The lab is expected to benefit more than 2,500 students through application-based STEM learning.
Moving Beyond Textbook Learning
The new facility is designed to give students exposure to areas such as robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, interactive STEM equipment and practical science modules. Instead of limiting learning to textbooks and classroom explanations, students can experiment, build, test and understand concepts through direct experience.
This approach is increasingly important as technology reshapes the skills required across industries. From manufacturing and healthcare to mobility and information technology, future workplaces will require young people who can combine technical knowledge with creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
For students in government schools, access to such infrastructure can help reduce the gap between theoretical education and the technologies they are likely to encounter in higher education and future careers.
Technology as an Education Equaliser
The Pitampura STEM lab also highlights the importance of making advanced learning opportunities accessible beyond premium private schools.
The Shikhar Dhawan Foundation’s Digital Shiksha initiative has previously supported Delhi government schools through interactive flat panels, smart devices and digital curriculum. According to the foundation, the broader initiative has reached more than 25,000 students nationwide since its launch in 2022.
The new STEM facility takes that digital-learning approach a step further by combining technology with experiential education.
