India’s beverage and packaged-food industries are expanding—and behind every growing production line is a growing demand for advanced machinery.

Germany-based Krones is responding to that opportunity with a new manufacturing facility at Vemagal in Karnataka’s Kolar district.

Built with an investment of ₹315 crore, the 16,000-square-metre facility is expected to create around 400 jobs and manufacture packaging systems and machinery for the Indian market.

Closer to the Indian Customer

For Krones, the plant is about more than adding production capacity.

The company says the new facility will bring manufacturing and expertise closer to the market, enabling it to respond more effectively to the requirements of Indian customers while strengthening its local value creation.

That is increasingly important as India’s food, beverage and packaging ecosystem moves toward higher levels of automation, efficiency and scale.

Building Local Manufacturing Depth

The Vemagal facility also highlights a broader shift in India’s industrial landscape.

Global engineering companies are increasingly looking to establish manufacturing capabilities within the country rather than relying entirely on imported equipment.

For India, this can strengthen the wider ecosystem—from engineering and components to technical services, skilled jobs and supplier networks.

Krones has also indicated that further expansion stages are planned, with the share of locally manufactured equipment expected to increase over time.

Why It Matters

The significance of the plant extends beyond Krones.

India’s expanding beverage and food-processing sectors require sophisticated production and packaging technology. Local manufacturing can help companies access that technology more efficiently while supporting the development of domestic industrial capabilities.

The Vemagal investment therefore represents both market proximity and manufacturing localisation.

Krones’ new Karnataka facility is a strong signal of how global industrial companies are viewing India.

The opportunity is no longer simply to sell into India.

It is to manufacture in India, develop expertise in India and grow with the Indian market.

As manufacturing localisation deepens, investments like Vemagal could become an important part of India’s transition from a large consumer market into a more capable global manufacturing and engineering hub.
