Cat 355 Hydraulic Excavator, Cat D5 Dozer and Cat 120 GC Motor Grader target mining, heavy infrastructure and road construction applications

Caterpillar has launched three machines at bauma CONEXPO India 2026 in Greater Noida: the Cat 355 Hydraulic Excavator, Cat D5 Dozer and Cat 120 GC Motor Grader. The machines address applications spanning quarrying and mining, heavy infrastructure, and road construction and maintenance.

Cat 355: Built for Quarrying, Mining and Heavy Infrastructure

The Cat 355 Hydraulic Excavator is designed for demanding quarrying, mining and heavy infrastructure applications.

The machine is powered by a Cat C13B engine and electrohydraulic system. Its 355 WVG configuration features a 4,040-mm-wide undercarriage, while available bucket configurations include a 4.0-cubic-metre severe-duty bucket and a 4.5-cubic-metre heavy-duty bucket.

The excavator offers three work modes. Its Smart Mode is designed to automatically balance engine and hydraulic power according to operating requirements, with Caterpillar stating that this can help reduce fuel consumption.

The machine also incorporates features intended to simplify maintenance, including extended filter life, synchronised maintenance intervals, ground-level service points, automatic fan cleaning and onboard maintenance tracking.

Cat D5 Dozer: Designed for Mining and Heavy Infrastructure

Caterpillar has also introduced the Cat D5 Dozer, designed for mining and heavy infrastructure applications.

The D5 is powered by a Cat C7.1 engine and fully automatic transmission. Its powertrain includes a 170-hp electronic engine, torque divider and differential steering, while a 4.3-cubic-metre SU blade is available to increase material-moving capability.

The machine also offers technology features and VPAT blade options for applications requiring greater precision. Caterpillar says its elevated sprocket undercarriage, modular components and grouped service points are intended to simplify maintenance and reduce downtime.

Safety-related features include a standard rear ladder, grab rails and tie-off points, along with lighting options, a slope indicator and an optional rearview camera.

Cat 120 GC: Focused on Road Construction and Maintenance

The third machine, the Cat 120 GC Motor Grader, is designed for road construction and maintenance.

Caterpillar positions the machine for low- to medium-duty applications, including rural road maintenance and finish grading. It is powered by a Cat C4.4 engine and combines a powershift transmission with electronic throttle control and standard Eco Mode.

Available features include a digital blade slope meter, all-wheel drive, reversing fan, multiple mouldboard widths and front and rear attachments for specific grading applications.

Beyond Equipment: Connected Technologies and Services

Alongside the three machines, Caterpillar is showcasing an integrated portfolio that includes Cat and SEM equipment, connected technologies, aftermarket services, financing solutions, rental and used equipment, FG Wilson gensets and work tools.

The company’s technology showcase includes Product Link, VisionLink and Cat GRADE with ASSIST. Caterpillar is also highlighting Customer Value Agreements and Cat Central, its digital platform for equipment information, maintenance resources, parts ordering and dealer support.

According to Caterpillar, these solutions are intended to support customers across the equipment lifecycle, from machine selection and financing through maintenance and ongoing equipment management.

Caterpillar’s India Focus

The three launches bring together equipment for three distinct areas of India’s construction and infrastructure ecosystem: heavy excavation and mining, earthmoving and infrastructure work, and road construction and maintenance.

Gurman Reen, Sales Director, Customer Solutions Division, Caterpillar India, said India’s next phase of infrastructure growth will be shaped by productivity, efficiency and execution at scale. He added that the three machines, together with Caterpillar’s technology, services and financing solutions, are intended to help customers improve performance, manage costs and maximise equipment value.

Caterpillar’s bauma CONEXPO India 2026 showcase illustrates how construction equipment is increasingly being presented alongside digital technologies, maintenance support, financing and lifecycle services.

With the Cat 355, D5 Dozer and 120 GC Motor Grader, Caterpillar is addressing different equipment requirements across mining, heavy infrastructure and road construction while demonstrating the wider technology and support ecosystem around its machines.

For India’s construction and infrastructure equipment sector, the exhibition provides a useful view of how manufacturers are combining machine capability with technology, maintenance and equipment-management solutions.
