Novonesis Plans New Enzyme Facility in India

Novonesis has announced a €600 million investment in India to build a next-generation enzyme production facility at its existing site

Novonesis has announced a €600 million investment in India to build a next-generation enzyme production facility at its existing site in Patalganga, Maharashtra. The company says the investment will increase its production capacity and strengthen its ability to serve customers in India and other markets.

The new facility is planned to be fully operational by 2030. According to Novonesis, the investment will support growing demand for its biosolutions and expand production capabilities at the Patalganga site.

The facility will produce enzymes for applications including biofuels, food and beverages, and household care. These enzymes are used by industries as part of different production processes, giving the new facility a broad industrial application base.

The investment also has a regional supply-chain focus. Novonesis says the expanded production capacity in India will help serve customers across India, the Middle East and Africa.

Sustainability is also included in the facility’s design. Novonesis states that the plant will incorporate freshwater recycling and integrated heat-pump systems. The company says these measures are intended to reduce freshwater withdrawals and energy consumption.

The Patalganga project forms part of Novonesis’ broader investment in its global production network. The company describes the investment as an expansion of its manufacturing capacity to support demand for biosolutions.

For India, the announcement represents a significant investment by a global biosolutions company in domestic manufacturing capacity. The project also places advanced enzyme production at the centre of the company’s India expansion plans.

With operations targeted for 2030, the Patalganga facility is set to become an important part of Novonesis’ production network. The €600 million investment underlines the company’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing presence in India and serving growing demand across the region.
