Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is deepening its presence in the Middle East’s energy infrastructure market with a new gas compression facilities project secured by its hydrocarbon arm, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore (LTEH Onshore).
The contract, awarded against a Letter of Award issued in FY26, covers the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of gas compression plants for a prestigious Middle East client. While the client has not been publicly identified, the project represents another significant opportunity for L&T to deploy its engineering and project-execution capabilities in a technically demanding energy environment.
The facilities will include gas inlet systems, gas compression units, condensate and produced-water handling systems, propane refrigeration systems and associated utilities. Designed for new onshore installations, the plants will process sour gas, requiring stringent adherence to applicable client standards, technical codes and project requirements.
Sour gas presents additional engineering and operational challenges because of the presence of corrosive and hazardous components. The successful execution of such projects therefore requires specialised engineering, robust process systems and stringent safety and reliability standards. For L&T, the project provides an opportunity to leverage its experience across complex hydrocarbon infrastructure.
A notable aspect of the contract is its integrated power infrastructure component. To meet the electricity requirements of the gas compression plants, L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution business will execute two 230 kV extra-high-voltage substations. This brings together L&T’s hydrocarbon and power capabilities within a single project ecosystem.
According to E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President & Head of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore, the project will add significant gas compression capacity and utility infrastructure while drawing on the company’s experience in executing complex hydrocarbon facilities and sour-gas applications.
The project also highlights a broader trend across the Middle East, where investments in gas infrastructure are supporting the region’s evolving energy requirements. Gas processing and compression infrastructure remains critical to maintaining reliable production, transportation and utilisation of natural gas resources.
For L&T, the contract strengthens the strategic role of its international EPC business. LTEH Onshore delivers turnkey solutions across the upstream, midstream and downstream hydrocarbon value chain, with experience spanning refineries, petrochemicals, gas processing, fertilisers, LNG terminals and cross-country pipelines.
The larger takeaway is clear: Indian EPC capabilities are increasingly competing at the global level for complex energy infrastructure projects. L&T’s latest Middle East win demonstrates how integrated engineering, construction and power capabilities can create a competitive advantage in technically demanding markets.
The Middle East’s energy infrastructure opportunity is evolving—and L&T is positioning itself beyond traditional EPC execution. By combining hydrocarbon engineering with high-voltage power infrastructure, the company is building an integrated project capability that can strengthen India’s footprint in global energy markets.
